Guest Speaker at UNCW
350 UNCW, a student chapter of 350.org at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is focused on reducing the universities' carbon footprint, supporting climate change awareness, and divesting UNCW from fossil fuels. Members sought to learn more about the impact of climate change on indigenous communities and to recognize the tribal lands that the university is built upon. The president of the club reached out to Sophia Powless to be a guest speaker on Indigenous People's Day to discuss her experiences with climate change in indigenous communities and share her views on environmentalism and climate action

Senator May's Youth Climate Forum
Senator Rachel May joined by other prominent members of the community came together for a digital climate forum to discuss the intersection of climate change and racial justice. Sophia Powless was asked to join the youth panel, to speak about her motivations and involvement in the climate movement, as well as the impact that climate change has had on her life and the Onondaga Nation.
